In 2011, a mystical experience took me directly into the heart of love, suffering and forgiveness. From the inside out, I felt how these experiences shaped my own understanding of self and other and my heart was cracked open to the full breadth of emotions that are a part of being human. This event caused me to reevaluate, reprioritize, and reorganize nearly every aspect of my life. I left my 20 year career as a mortgage broker, became a high school English and Social Studies teacher and eventually was drawn to hospital chaplaincy. As a hospital chaplain, love, suffering, and forgiveness were everpresent, in one form or another, and I was honored to bear witness to others who found themselves facing heartbreak, tragedy, and, at times, personal transformation. I am now a Spiritual Counselor in private practice.
During these last ten-plus years, I have written extensively about this journey. It has been one in equal measure agony and ecstasy, oftentimes not knowing which was which. I have received much guidance and wisdom along the way, as well as support integrating many of these experiences that existed outside the realm of my own understanding. I now find that this integration is resulting in a more universal and less personal understanding of reality, and it is this that I would like to share with you, my readers. I look forward to your comments and questions, insights and contributions, in whatever form they might take.
